5.0 out of 5 stars The best wireless controller you will ever buy!
Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2024
I game on pc often, but grew up playing console and find a lot more joy in gaming with a controller than mouse and keyboard. That doesn’t mean I’m not competitive, just that I have to try extra hard when I game since I’m at a slight disadvantage. For this reason I’ve tried multiple controllers and was a little skeptic about a wireless controller since they usually have input lag. Let me first answer a question I had before buying, yes it connects to your pc via usb. I thought about this before buying it, but you won’t need to use it that way since it’s 2.4Ghz feature means there’s NO input lag!

This is great, but I was also concerned about the feel and quality of the controller. If you’re wondering too, It’s amazing! The controller is a tad on the smaller side for me since I have long fingers, but the design is so well made that it doesn’t affect gaming in the slightest. The buttons are an amazing quality and although well under the $100 mark it’s incredibly responsive and doesn’t feel like other controllers I’ve tried of around the same price tag (I thought I was downgrading from my power a fusion).
I did have to play with my settings for a bit before finding my comfort zone because it has a different feel from other controllers I used, but I quickly realized that it was because it’s smoother and the buttons are flushed with the body of the controller which makes it feel like they’re almost not there. It’s incredibly functional and feels like your fingers glide through the buttons and analog sticks when you’re playing at the right settings.
I think it’s an understatement to say it’s an amazing value for the money considering how high quality the controller feels and how they managed to make a wireless controller at this price point have pretty much no lag (none that I could notice at least, I know technically there’s some quintessimal of a second that’s basically imperceivable). I wish I could talk about the life span of it, but I wrote this review pretty early after getting it cause I want to spread the word on how much I’ve enjoyed using it since yesterday!! I just finished up an awesome gaming session and I’m genuinely impressed at this controller.

If anything were to happen to it, I’d definitely buy again! GGs everyone!

this thing is great, another win for 8bitdo

it seems most of the negative reviews are about lacking wireless capability on XB systems _ yes, it bears the logo (for that I'm conflicted, as other devices in this line are 8bitdo branded) but it works wonderfully with a SteamOS portable & 2.4 adapter docked at home, and well enough when switching to Bluetooth during travel.
it also works with well with a docked Nintendo Switch.
+the construction & detail are wonderful
+/-though not having run a Windows diog on it, Hall sticks are very responsive, without drift, if not almost too sensitive
+it's got some heft to it, and feels "quality"
the same can be said about the force feedback
+triggers are satisfying & responsive, with racers incredibly fun to play
+bumpers have an incredibly satisfying "click" when pressed
+mic mute is a switch instead of a button, and is non illuminated
+/-if your hands are dry, it absolutely feels like it could shoot out of your hands, but thankfully doesn't. this is scary.
-paddles aren't bindable (inactive, actually) on SteamOS with 2.4 adapter docked, but mostly functional on Bluetooth
+/-Dpad is really great feeling, but diagonals (ie -> + ^ etc.) have sometimes been unregistered, noticeable in high intensity sidescrollers. probably in fighters, too. dreamy for grid-based strategy/RPGs though, or any game involving heavy item management.
    +battery life is spectacular

it's great for the price AND you can use it in multiple platforms.
get it in something dark. really, anything but stain-magnet white.

2.0 out of 5 stars Almost great, but with a lot of problems.

My first impression of this controller was really good. The sticks feel great, the abxy buttons feel pretty much identical to an xbox controller, it's comfortable though not as good for big hands as an xbox controller, it connects to my pc immediately after picking it up off the dock, seemed like a good replacement for my 8 year old xbox elite controller that's finally wearing out.
As I used it I started to notice a lot of small things that made the controller feel a little worse, but were ultimately not a big deal. Despite being branded with xbox, it can't be used wirelessly with an xbox. I'm on PC though, so not a big deal for me. The D pad is very mushy and doesn't feel good at all. The rumble motors are strong enough to do their job, but there is a noticeable difference in the feel between the left and right motors for both the palm and trigger rumble. Not a problem, but it makes the controller feel cheaper. Then the software told me the controller had an update available. The update stopped at 100% and wasn't finished even after leaving it overnight. I had to force close the software to be able to use the controller again. The controller works fine without the update, but not being able to update it feels bad. The paddle buttons on the back are not good. For them to be at all clicky you have to press them down toward the bottom of the controller. Pulling them in towards your palm in a way that feels natural gives almost no feedback and the force you have to apply varies wildly depending on the exact angle you press the button. The buttons are usable, but don't feel good to use.
Now after using the controller for a few weeks, some of the buttons have started missing inputs. Maybe 1 in 50 times the rb button doesn't register. The d pad will often ignore inputs or input multiple times with one button press. For example pressing d pad right 3 times to move 3 spaces in a menu will either move 3 spaces like it should, move 2 spaces, move 4 spaces, or move 2 spaces then after a delay move another 2 or 3 spaces.
I have gone back to using my 8 year old xbox elite controller with messed up abxy buttons, stick drift, and peeling rubber since that is a more enjoyable experience. I won't by buying an 8bitdo controller again.
