Get behind the visor of intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran in her critically-acclaimed first-person adventure

Step into the boots of Samus Aran as you navigate the winding paths and interconnected environments of an alluring-yet-dangerous alien planet. Use powers like the iconic Morph Ball and Grapple Beam to revisit hard-to-reach areas and find a path forward. With revamped graphics, sound, unlockable art, and updated control schemes, Samus’ 3D platforming debut has reached greater heights. Calm and capable, Samus takes on this solo mission…but she is far from alone.

Explore the alien environments and eerie isolation of planet Tallon IV

Journey through the diverse biomes of planet Tallon IV as you uncover the Space Pirates’ sinister experiments and gather information about the toxic substance that left the planet in ruin. Blast forward to your next objective or take time to stop and scan your surroundings and delve into the creatures and culture of Tallon IV. From the quiet stillness of the snowy Phendrana Drifts to the magma geysers of Magmoor Caverns, this alien planet introduces beautifully harsh landscapes and labyrinths.

Upgrade your arsenal to take on extraterrestrial terrors

Use Samus’ Arm Cannon and go head-to-head against otherworldly creatures, bolstered Space Pirates, and Ridley, revived with cybernetic and genetic enhancements. Backtrack through areas and pay close attention to your environment to solve puzzles and get more upgrades. You’ll need the help of abilities like the Ice Beam, Missiles, and several visors to dispatch the alien threats lurking on Tallon IV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic conversion to the Switch

This is such a great port of Metroid Prime to the Switch! The developers did a superb job.

Controls: It has a few control schemes but none of them have the same feel as the Gamecube controller, and you can't freely assign buttons. You have to pick from some pre-defined templates. I use the Pro controller and I'd say it's like 8/10ths as good of a feeling as it was on the GC controller back in the day.

I have heard that you can use an original GC controller through the Smash Bros. GC to Switch adapter, but while it works there's some button (map button?) you can't access. While hardly anyone will use this, I do wish the developers supported it.

Visuals: All the textures and models have been remade for the game and they look fantastic. It's not like other cheap HD ports where they only updated parts of the game inconsistently. The game runs at 1080P at 60 FPS all the time.

There are a few visual effects which don't look right, such as lava sticking to your visor when you jump out of a pool of lava. I don't know if it's an oversight but you do wonder how QA didn't catch this. But I want to stress that like 99% of the game looks perfect, and it really is these minor edge cases where you sometimes see a little weirdness.

Sound: No changes to the audio or sound effects, they're just as good as you remember it.

Difficulty: There's a new casual game mode which so far feels a lot easier. While I loved the difficulty of the original game I felt it really spiked at the very end so it's been nice to have an easier ride through this time. Of course you can pick the normal difficulty mode too if you want that classic challenge.

Overall: I bought the physical copy and am very happy with it. Amazon did a good job restocking this game after the initial wave of orders. I like that Nintendo made this game cheaper than most others because it is a port, and I really hope they release Metroid Prime 2 next because I'll be first in line to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful Remaster

Metroid Prime Remastered is a great way to experience this original master piece. I had never played the original but the game holds up in today's world, it's a very fun metroidvania with clear progression and it never felt like I was lost on wear to go or what to do. The variety of abilities is fun to experiment with and the new controls make it feel good in a modern gaming environment. The new visuals make the game one of the best looking on switch.
